Simulation Lab Climate and Environment
The Scientific Computing Center (SCC) at KIT and Jülich Supercomuting Centre (JSC) at Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) have established Simulation Laboratories (SimLabs) as part of the POF programm Supercomputing. The SimLabs act as an interface between the experts at the supercomputing centres and the members of different scientific communities. The SimLab Climate and Environment is responsible for the atmospheric and earth science community and works closely together with the SimLab Climate Science at JSC.
The SimLab Climate and Environment is an integral part of the KIT Centre Climate and Environment. The SimLab supports atmospheric and environmental model systems using the facilities of supercomputing centres especially at SCC and JSC. The focus of the SimLab is in the range of High Performance Computing and in carrying out research together with the atmospheric and earth science community. This work is typically done in close cooperation with scientific institutes through common projects.
The tasks of SimLab share in
High Level Support:
- Accessing HPC systems at SCC, JSC and other computing centres
- Porting, installation and simulation of model systems at these HPC systems
- Optimization of models concerning performance, scalability, load balancing, or parallel in- and output
Scientific applications:
- Model development (e.g., development of submoduls or updates of model systems)
- Co-operation with research institutes in common projects in climate and earth science
