The SCC provides a range of services for different data handling use cases. Whether it's huge research data, documents to be jointly processed, data to be structured or personal data and documents, the SCC services enable reliable central storage and processing, backing up and archiving on backup media and the management of structured data in databases.

Data (storage, sharing, management)

	Anonymous FTP server The SCC offers a file transfer service ftp.scc.kit.edu for use at KIT.
	Backup The backup service IBM SP (Spectrum Protect) provides KIT employees with the possibility of regular, automatic backup of Windows, Macintosh and Linux computers.
	bwDataArchive - long-term Data Archive for Scientific Data The federal state service bwDataArchive offers a solution for long-term data archiving, which is especially available for employees of universities and public research institutions in Baden-Württemberg. Data archiving is carried out at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and includes reliable storage of even large data sets for a period of ten or more years. The service enables a qualified implementation of the recommendations of the German Research Foundation (DFG) for the securing and storage of research data.
	File exchange and online storage for desktop data (bwSync&Share) The state service bwSync&Share is an online storage service for employees and students of universities and colleges in Baden-Württemberg. It has been operated at KIT since January 1, 2014 and enables users to synchronize or exchange their data between different computers, mobile devices, and users.
	KIT Data storage (for students) This service provides every KIT student with a KIT account a highly available and centralized home directory.This is also referred to as Student Home in the following.
	KIT data storage (OU directory) The OU directory is a centrally broad-based, highly available data repository for OU-specific data for an organizational unit (OU) of KIT.
	KIT data storage (personal directory) The personal directory is a highly available and central data storage for personal data and documents. The repository is available to all KIT employees, but cannot be shared with other users. The service KIT data storage (for students) is especially offered for students at KIT (see Links).
	KIT Team Sites This IT service provides a central web-based platform for collaboration and communication of teams at KIT (organizational units, working and project groups). If required, access can also be enabled for external users.
	Mass storage for scientific data (LSDF Online Storage) The service "LSDF Online Storage" offers users of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology access to a large scale disk data storage which is intended in particular for the storage of scientific measurement data and simulation results of data-intensive scientific disciplines.Â The LSDF Online Storage is operated by Scientific Computing Center. Several protocols can be used to access the data: SCP, NFS, CIFS, WebDAV. The data is backed up and protected in a state-of-the-art manner from various types of disasters (without direct user access to the backed up copies). The service is not suitable for storing personal, commercial or other non-scientific data.
	MS SQL Database Hosting of databases or applications on the basis of MS SQL Server
	MySQL databases MySQL Databases for KIT Applications and Students MySQL is a popular open source database system, especially in the web environment. KIT employees and students can create and set up their own MySQL database at SCC using their KIT account. (For students this service is free of charge, otherwise see applicable budgeting rules).
	Oracle databases Hosting of Oracle databases and applications
	PostgreSQL databases PostgreSQL is a widely used, object-relational database management system (DBMS). The SCC operates the open source product on its own server systems and offers KIT employees the possibility to use PostgreSQL databases for official purposes. This service is currently not yet available to students.
	Serviceteam Research Data Management The RDM@KIT service team sees itself as a partner of science and research. We support you at KIT with services for sustainable research data management, starting with the application of scientific projects up to publication and archiving.
