Simulation and Data Life Cycle Labs at SCC

One of the major goals of SCC is to create value for science, technology and society from big and heterogeneous scientific data, data-driven modeling and complex theories, using state-of-the-art data analytics and simulation technologies and including new disruptive computing technologies such as quantum and neuromorphic computing. Therefore, SCC will strive to foster the development of data sciences as strongly recommended in the scientific evaluation of the PoF III Program in 2017/18. This entails the evolution of the hitherto separated Simulation Labs and Data Life Cycle Labs into deeply integrated Simulation and Data Life Cycle Labs (SDL).

SDLs are innovative instruments introduced in PoF II and fully established in PoF III to provide science and technology-based support to the users of the infrastructures. The integration of Simulation Labs and Data Life Cycle Labs into SDLs will allow the data sciences to benefit from the highly developed simulation science expertise of the Engineering Digital Futures (EDF) Program experts, and simulation sciences in turn will benefit from the fast increasing data science competencies in data management, ML and AI and also from the high-performance data centre NHR at KIT.

Currently there are four SDLs at SCC:
