Connection problems in the wired KIT network access possible - UPDATE (09.04.24)

Description- Update 09.04.2014 10:00 a.m. -
On Friday, April 5, we took short-term measures that became effective the following Monday morning by reloading the affected network components. This alleviated the problem and, from our point of view, there are currently no disruptions. However, as these can still occur, we are monitoring the situation and working on a sustainable solution to the problem, which will take some time for KITnet to fully implement.

- Announcement -
There may currently be connection problems with wired network access via IPv6 in buildings on Campus South.
Connections via IPv6 may not be established by individual devices or may have a high packet loss rate.
The underlying cause of the problem has already been identified and a sustainable solution is being worked on.
Affected users
WorkaroundIf possible, affected devices can switch to WLAN to avoid the problem.

KITnet (DNS): Conversion of the DNS infrastructure for kit.edu

DESCRIPTION
In the period from 14.5.2024 to 23.5.2024, the domain kit.edu will be migrated to the new, real-time DNS infrastructure of the SCC in a multi-step process.
Changes to the DNS data via NETVS or WebAPI will then be visible in the DNS within seconds.

AFFECTED
Domain Name Service (DNS) - https://www.scc.kit.edu/en/services/6301.php

IMPACT
NO interruptions

NOTE
The migration will be transparent, and manual intervention by users or service operators will not be necessary.

**Exceptions include systems, especially decentralized resolvers, which have dns1.kit.edu or dns2.kit.edu hardcoded for resolving kit.edu.
These systems must be updated manually by the respective system administrators.**

For systems using the DNS resolvers[1] of the SCC, no manual intervention is necessary.

If you experience problems with DNS entries under kit.edu after the above-mentioned period, please contact SCC Support Team, it-support@scc.kit.edu
